After a few chance sightings at tradeshows throughout early 2017, Meze’s most recent innovation – the eagerly awaited 99 Neo – will finally be hitting our UK shores and stores this May!
For those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of checking them out, 99 Neo is a fresh take on Meze’s popular 99 Classics headphone. The Neo variant features the same closed-back format, audio quality and physical robustness as its Classic counterpart, but also incorporates a few tuning and design tweaks, all at a pleasantly more affordable price point.
What’s New?
Cups
Visually maybe the most obvious difference: whilst the 99 Classics feature a wooden finish cup, the Neo’s cups have been moulded from a pure ABS plastic for a sleek and more industrial aesthetic.
Earpads
Meze have opted for a slightly deeper memory-foam earpad with the Neo assembly for better comfort and isolation. The new pads have been deemed such a success that they have also been made available as an add-on accessory for the 99 Classics.
Impedance
The 99 Neo is rated at 26 Ohm, a lower impedance compared to the 99 Classics (32 Ohm). This change results in lower gain being required to drive the cans and as such makes the 99 Neo a more portable-device-friendly headphone all-round.
Carry Case
In contrast to the leather case included with the 99 Classics for transportation, Meze have picked a textured NATO-style material case, better matching the Neo’s style.
