Forever nudging toward the very edge of digital progress, Novafidelity / cocktailAudio have announced a brand new streaming product due to ship in late November 2020. With an SSP of just £1099 inc VAT, the newly revealed N25 is primed to be Novafidelity’s most affordable advanced network audio player to-date.
The Streaming Skillset
In
pooling a number of Novatron's core technologies and features, the Novafidelity N25’s design makes up a unit with an impressive set of modern abilities.
Compatibility with all major music streaming services is included, featuring support for big names such as Amazon Music, HighResAudio, TIDAL, TIDAL MQA, Deezer, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, Napster and Internet Radio / Airable. A wide variety of modern and desirable file format types are also accommodated, including MQA, DSD (64/128/256), DXD (24Bit/352.8Khz), PCM (up to 32Bit/384Khz including 24Bit/192Khz WAV/FLAC), as well as full range hi-res audio files.
For home networking enthusiasts, support for popular network functions such as UPnP, Samba and Roon has been included to offer versatile multiroom solutions for users that desire them.
Under The Hood
As usual Novafidelity’s cutting edge functionality has been seamlessly paired with cutting edge components.
At the heart of the N25 lies an ARM Cortex A9 processor running at 1.0Ghz, with a Sabre32 Reference chip from ESS handling conversion duties. For users wishing to link an external DAC, Novafidelity have also built in the functionality to connect external converters via USB with Audio Class 2.0.
To bypass electrical noise during playback, an isolated power supply circuit design has been employed. This separates digital and analogue sections internally, hugely reducing the amount of operational noice from the streamer while in use.
On the rear of the unit a concise selection of input and output options have been included to satisfy a broad range of modern peripherals. Coaxial and TOSlink ports are available for digital connectivity, along with two USB 3.0 ports and lightning fast Ethernet up to 1000Mbps. On the analogue side, high quality RCA terminals are on hand to provide clean output to any external power amp and loudspeakers.
HDMI connectivity has also been included, both for connecting external screens, and for ARC input functionality.
For users of Bluetooth speakers and headphones, an optional compact expansion is available to add Bluetooth transmission capabilities to the N25 for ease of connectivity to compatible devices nearby.
Fully iOS / Android Controllable
Tablet owners will be thrilled to learn that along with the 4.6” TFT LCD screen with intuitive GUI and remote control via infrared, the N25 is fully compatible with Novatron’s MusicX Neo application, available for download from the App Store and Google Play Store now.
Coming soon, an exciting update to the MusicX Neo app will also enable multi-room functionality between multple Novafidelity units - master and slave streaming units can be linked and assigned, each with independent volume controls.
