Focal Professional
One of the largest arrays of new products in one hit that we’ve seen from Focal in recent years, the JMLab team announced brand new additions to their professional headphone range, plus a new extension to their hugely popular Shape Studio Monitor family.
Listen Pro – A versatile 'Swiss army knife’ circum-aural headphone design with closed back enclosures – great not only for studio tracking, but also light mixing and general listening duties too
Clear Pro – Some may already be aware of Focal’s applauded high-end consumer headphone ‘Clear’ released in 2017 – Clear Pro brings the same unbelievable clarity and poise confidently to the music production niche. Featuring an open-back design and microfibre ear pads, Clear Pro can be worn comfortably for brutally-extended periods of time and makes for a valuable mixing tool in or out of the studio.
Shape Twin – The Shape range hit big in 2017 featuring passive radiators, ‘M’-shaped aluminium tweeters and Flax Cone drivers. Shape Twin is the latest addition to this family, built for vertical orientation in a 2.5-way configuration. In keeping with the Shape philosophy, whilst the new model is capable of considerable power it still performs elegantly at lower volumes and in smaller mixing spaces.
Black Lion Audio
From the laboratory of Black Lion CEO Nate Bierdeman comes two brand new studio outboard products – as always featuring almost unthinkably reasonable price-tags.
Seventeen – A modern take on the classic 1176 limiting amplifier, the Seventeen mono-channel compressor is capable of exquisite detail and nuance and features selectable high and low pass filters to dial in a truly personalised style of dynamic compression.
