SPL Performer s800 Stereo Power Amplifier

The Performer s800 is a conveniently compact stereo power amplifier powered by SPL’s proprietary VOLTAiR technology to allow complete control of speaker volume, all the way to the load limits.

Performer s800 packs enough punch to easily deliver 2x 285W into 4 ohms via its analogue linear power supply and Toroidal transformer. In bridge mode, the amp delivers 450W into 4 or 8 ohms.

  • Powered by SPL's VOLTAiR technology
  • 855 VA Toroidal transformer
  • Provides up to 2x 285W into 4 ohms
  • 450W into 4/8 ohms in bridge mode
  • Stepped trim control (-0.5dB to -5.5dB)
  • Balanced Neutrik XLR in and out connectors
  • Gold plated banana-plug compatible binding posts
  • Remote power controllable

Featuring bipolar power amp transistors that are directly drivable via preamp, the character of the s800 is best described as fast, direct and highly efficient in sound.

Input gain can also be lowered via a rotary 0.5dB stepped trim switch down to -5.5dB to achieve optimal stere sweet-spots, especially in less than ideal acoustic spaces.

Built-In DC and Heat Protection

Effective protection is present at every stage of the s800, including a circuit which monitors for DC voltage in case of power surges, and an overheating safeguard at the output which disables the amplifier if the heat sync reaches 70 degrees Celsius.

When the s800 temperature returns to 55 degrees or below, the amplifier verifies the change before automatically powering back up. In the event of a power surge, the amplifier requires a power cycle to resume normal operation.

Remote Amp Control

SPL’s AMP CTR or ‘amp control’ feature allows remote power control via a 3.5mm mono jack. When combined with any preamplifier featuring the same port (e.g. SPL Director Mk2 or Phonitor X) and appropriate cabling, both units  can be powered at the flick of a single switch.

Toroidal To The Core
SPL Performer s800's internal conversion circuit

At the heart of the s800’s architecture is a 855 VA Toroidal transformer, carefully selected through multiple listening tests to offer superior sound to other switch mode digital and power amplifiers available on the market.

The 855 VA also clocks in at 40800 µF capacitance, which simultaneously screens electrical storage while ensuring faithful reproduction of all impulse peaks.

High Quality Connectors

The s800 is furnished with top shelf input and output connectors including  Neutrik 3-pin XLR connectors for balanced operation, and gold-plating binding posts for banana plugs and bare wire up to 4mm diameter.

As an added safeguarding measure, the s800’s binding posts also feature clear plastic caps to ensure protection from short circuits.
