Presenting Auteur Quad from Black Lion Audio

Black Lion Audio’s dual channel Auteur Microphone Preamp has been a rising star in studio recording over the past ten years. The preamp’s ability to add a pleasing warmth and thickness to vocals, guitars and keys resonated with fans of the analogue sound, and it’s easy-on-the-eyes price point allowed access to an enormously broad audience of users from project studios and production hobbyists all the way up to commercial studios and industry professionals.

Fast forward to present day 2018 and Black Lion Audio are widening the scope even further. The process of recording bands (and particularly percussion) often calls for the ability to accommodate 4 input channels simultaneously - Black Lion’s elegant solution? Meet the Auteur Quad.

Black Lion Audio’s 1U 19” rack-mountable addition to the Auteur line features adjustable gain, phantom power, phase reversal and a 10dB pad on all four channels, plus direct inject inputs on channels 1 and 2 equipped with a switchable Hi-Z impedance setting. With more simultaneous signals there’s more for engineers to keep on top of, and so Black Lion have equipped each channel with it’s own input level meter to monitor levels and any clipping.

Under the hood, Black Lion have included 4 preamping circuits consistent with their two channel version. The same synergy of vintage and modern design is harnessed, powered by specially selected Edcor transformers to provide a hugely colourful low-end.

Patch bay fans will be relieved to spot that both XLR and TRS balanced jack outputs are available per channel on the rear of the unit, while each input XLR is equipped with a push-release locking mechanism to ensure security during recording.

As with the entirety of Black Lion Audio’s range, the Auteur Quad is built on-site at Black Lion’s manufacturing facility in Chicago, Illinois. A solid analogue 4 channel preamp product, remarkably affordable, made in USA - we’re rather excited too.
