What's New in Sonarworks Reference 4.3?
Last month Sonarworks released the latest update to their hugely successful Reference 4 audio calibration software suite. Innovative new features and improvements have been made to both the Studio and Headphone editions, so without further ado let’s dive in to see what’s new.
For this release, we decided to rewrite Systemwide from ground up with the main aim of improving set-up experience for new users, though we couldn’t help adding some improvements for our existing users as well.

Reference 4’s systemwide application for Windows and Mac desktop machines now offers on-demand profile downloads. This development allows not only for quicker set up, but also the ability for users to download their own personal headphone measurements directly into the software.
Along with various usability improvements, Sonarworks have also used the release of R4.3 to implement a long-requested ‘dark-mode’ setting, perfect for that true power-user look, or (if you’re inclined) for mixing in the middle of the night.
Brand New Mixed-Filter Mode
Building on the previous ‘optimum’ mode, Sonarworks’ newly deployed Mixed-Filter mode is present in both the R4 systemwide and plug-in editions and achieves an excellent middle ground between accurate frequency response and low latency. Users may notice a significant reduction in pre-ringing artifacts in-particular.
Even More Compatibility
With the release of Reference 4.3, Sonarworks have also achieved a personal best in their supported headphone count, and the number now stands at 232! There’s never been a better time to climb aboard the SW train - to find out if your headphone is supported, check Sonarworks’ compatibility reference list here.
Reference 4.3 is available as a FREE upgrade for existing Reference 4 users. If you’re searching for for Reference 4 for the first time, check out our list of authorised dealers for Studio and Headphone licences in the UK.
