For any engineer who has recorded directly to tape through via a classic analogue console, there can be little argument that the fat, warm and overall exciting flavour of tape is a huge desirable asset for any recording.

During VTM’s creation, Slate Digital underwent more than a year of intense critical listening to determine the secret ingredients that made the very best tape machines tick. Blessed with a location in Laurel Canyon Los Angeles, Slate were able to score face time with some of the finest examples in the business.

After much innovation and a plethora of algorithm tweaking, Slate’s resulting VTM plug in delivers incredible density and vitality both to individual tracks and to mix buses – and without a razor blade in sight.

Group Control
Automate control of multiple plugs with Slate Digital Groups

Once VTM’s controls have been adjusted to perfectly fit an individual track, the settings can then be shared across multiple plugin instances using Slate’s unique Grouping feature, or individually on a per-track basis.

Reel Auto-Stop and Start
Slate VTM's start/stop reel effect is synced perfectly with the DAW

In keeping with the operating style of classic analogue studios, VTM’s virtual tape reel is trained to intelligently start and stop in perfect sync with the transport of the user’s digital audio workstation software.
