Almost 4 years after the release of their enormously popular Bluey compressor, Chicago’s favourite pro audio mod-shop Black Lion Audio present their prized FET limiting amplifier ready for a whole new platform.
Blue Clues
Black Lion’s original inspiration for Bluey came from a particular blue-striped 1176 used in Mix LA Studios, California. The synonymously named ‘Bluey’ has featured on countless hits as well as every vocal track Mix LA’s Chris Lord-Alge has ever mixed.
Recognising the Bluey's unique talents, Black Lion embarked on the mammoth job of analysing the years of modifications, upgrades and component replacements that made the compressor so special.
When designing their Bluey for the masses, Black Lion employed two newly custom designed Cinemag transformers to recreate the spec of the original UTC input and Reichenbach output transformers. BLA’s designers then also meticulously recreated the same insert path from Chris Lord-Alge’s console to ensure a no-compromise Mix LA feel on every single compressor made.
True Blue, Without 2U
Black Lion’s new Bluey 500 – available from Spring 2023 – is a direct replica of their 2U rack mount Bluey, designed for the popular 500-series modular format. Under the hood, Bluey 500 is powered by a vintage-inspired circuit layout, 1% resistors and polyester capacitors for a PCB that’s as clear-sounding as it is long-lasting.
Armed with the same mix knob for wet/dry parallel compression, Bluey 500 brings the same exquisite dynamic processing directly to your lunchbox across just two slots.
